The exhibition delves into the theme of "coming out" as the revealing of hidden truths, expanding beyond the queer experience to explore a broader human narrative. It invites anyone who may carry personal secrets or hidden aspects of themselves to engage. Through various mediums, the exhibition highlights the deeply individual nature of this act of self-revelation.
Artists Prokhor Gusev, Viljar Irtun Moe, Victor Shakhbazov, and Gulnara Iskakova use the wardrobe—a symbolic reference to the phrase "coming out of the closet"—to explore the public declaration of difference. They invite visitors to physically open wardrobe doors, step inside, and immerse themselves in the intricate, personal journey of coming out.
Featuring three interactive installations and a live performance, the exhibition emphasizes the strong interplay between personal identity and societal expectations. It encourages the audience to go beyond mere observation by documenting and sharing their own "coming out" stories, whether related to LGBTQ+ identities or other personal truths. In doing so, participants are offered the opportunity to experience their own liberation, stepping out of the metaphorical closet and embracing the power of self-disclosure.
The project is supported by Tvibitstigen, and has producer support from Davvi - Centre for performing arts.
During the Arctic Pride the exhibition is hosted by Snerk Galleri (Grønnegata 3, 9008 Tromsø)
